Secure Building Data Access Connector (Microsoft ISV)
Overview
The Secure Building Data Access Connector is a Microsoft App Store–distributed ISV application that provides secure, read‑only access to building automation system data. The connector is designed to simplify analytics deployment by addressing security, access, and data‑governance concerns upfront—without altering control logic, system architectures, or ownership models.
The connector functions as analytics‑neutral infrastructure, enabling building system data to be accessed simultaneously by Pathian analytics and by customer‑approved third‑party platforms.
Designed for IT and Security Approval
The connector is built to meet enterprise IT and utility security requirements:
- Read‑only access by default
- Customer‑controlled deployment and configuration
- No write‑back to building systems
- No control authority or operational interference
- Microsoft App Store distribution and licensing
This design minimizes approval friction and supports rapid, repeatable deployment across portfolios.
Analytics‑Neutral Data Access
The Secure Building Data Access Connector preserves customer choice and avoids vendor lock‑in. Data accessed through the connector can be routed to:
- Pathian analytics engines
- Customer‑approved enterprise data platforms
- Third‑party analytics systems
Pathian does not restrict how customers use their data. The connector provides access; analytics consumption is determined by the customer.
Protocol and System Compatibility
The connector supports secure, read‑only access to building automation systems using industry‑standard protocols, including BACnet/IP. It operates alongside existing controllers, gateways, and management systems without requiring replacement or re‑commissioning.
Native data models, naming conventions, and control semantics are preserved.
Role Within the Platform
The Secure Building Data Access Connector serves as the data on‑ramp for the Pathian platform:
- Enables Portfolio Benchmarking Engine analytics
- Supports Utility Analytics & Action API deployments
- Feeds Regulatory & Compliance Reporting outputs
- Supports OEM Embedded Analytics Engine use cases
The connector itself does not perform analytics; it enables analytics to operate at scale.
Deployment Model
The connector is licensed and distributed through the Microsoft App Store. Deployment options support:
- On‑premises or customer‑controlled environments
- Secure outbound data connections
- Integration with Azure‑based analytics and APIs
Customers retain full ownership of data, infrastructure decisions, and downstream usage.
Role Clarity
Customers:
- Control deployment and access policies
- Approve data destinations
- Determine analytics usage
Pathian:
- Provides secure data access software
- Maintains connector security and compatibility
- Enables analytics without controlling systems
